Abstract
A new type of concrete called porous concrete has been developed with the considerable of living environment for minute animals and plants.Since it contains numerous relatively continuous large pores,it is weak compared with conventional concrete. For this reason,it is necessary to pay careful attention to the maintenance of a structure utilizing porous concrete.Since research and the utilization of this material have been very recent,an appropriate method for their maintenance and management are not yet developed.Aydan and others(2001,2002,2003 and 2004) achieved success for maintenance and management of construction rock structures in the field of rock mechanics by AE and electrical potential measurement. The authors applied this idea to the porous concrete in this research. Multi-parameters are stress, strain,AE and electrical potential and they measured during uniaxial compression tests on porous concrete samples.Every parameter was automatically measured. Moreover, electrical resistivity was measured when electrical potential is not measured.Furthermore, nondestructive tests for physical characteristics of porous concrete were also performed. From these results, the changes of electrical potential and AE were measured before failure. It is thought there experimental study provide fundamental data for the development of maintenance and management of the structures utilizing porous concrete.
