Abstract
Recently, the maintenance of existing reinforced concrete structure has been receiving a great attention in Japan, as a result it is expected that many structures have to be repaired and a great number of maintenance works will be necessary in near future.Although the deterioration of structures at the early ages is pointed out,the investigation of the durability of the structures in long-term is important for repairment and reconstruction. In this study, the piers of a 70 years old bridge, which were subjected to physical and chemical deterioration, were investigated.Samples were obtained through boring reinforced concrete piers. It was found that the average uniaxial compressive strength of piers of the structure was 28.3N/mmalthough the 70 years have already passed after its construction.
