Abstract
This report deals with a lancetfish,Alepisaurus ferox (Alepisauridae),stranded alive on the beach of Miho Key in Suruga Bay,central Honshu,Japan.Junior author (Sato)had a chance to observe a live lancetfish measuring ca.90cm in body length just stranded on the beach of Miho Key (nearby Shimizu campus of Tokai University)in the morning of Jan. 31, 1998. Photographs taken at that time are the first record of a live lancetfish just stranded. The successive photographs of a lancetfish revealed very exciting appearances and interesting behavior. Such records are very valuable for the ecological study of this species.
