Numerical Simulations on Kneading Process of Margarine in Pin Machine Using Discrete Element Method
Hiroshi ITO and Yoshiyuki SHIMIZU
Abstract
The Discrete Element Method (DEM)is used to analyze behavior of margarine inside a pin machine used for
kneading margarine in processing equipments. Comparing two rotation speeds of a shaft, 900 rpm and 450 rpm, it
turns out that in the case of 900 rpm, kneading proceeds 13.6% more than in the case of 450 rpm.Further,it is found
that several particles move rotationally around the shaft, also move backward against the flow direction.
