Ikuhisa TAKIGAWA
Abstract
To study the Indian Buddhist philosophy through Chinese translations,we have to give much attention to their specific wordings. In particular, to grasp the point of argument in a treatise, it is very important to understand precisely how Sanskrit words that serve grammatical functions are translated into Chinese. As an example of a comparative study of syntax,I will examine a Middle Chinese interrogativeepoyouf(œ—L)and its Sanskrit equivalent esyatfin the Abhidharmakosabhasya.
