Standard terminology of marine optics was recommended by IAPSO （International Association of the Physical Science of the Ocean） in 1985. We have found definitions of absorption, scattering and attenuation coefficients have inconsistencies in relation to other quantities in the IAPSO standard terminology. In this paper, the inconsistencies are pointed out and revised definitions of absorption, scattering and attenuation coefficients are proposed. Also, the revised definitions are validated. The validation shows that the revised definitions are consistent with other quantities.
